Why Beacon Exists
Many good clothes and accessories are thrown away. While too many people still go without.
Beacon gives unwanted items a second life — turning them into practical support for people in need.
We believe nobody should go without the basics. Beacon supports people doing it tough — in our own community here in Australia and around the world, including through projects in Africa.
1. Donate
Donate unwanted clothes and accessories through a Beacon Collection Bin. Our bins are located in residential and commercial buildings throughout Australia
2. We Collect & sort
Items are sorted and sold online and in store. Anything that can't be sold is given directly to people in need — locally or overseas. Nothing useful goes to waste
3. Support
Every dollar raised supports people in need in Australia and around the world. We carry out projects directly and work with trusted partners on the ground to make sure every dollar is used properly
How Beacon Works
Where Your Donations Go
Every dollar raised from donated goods goes directly to people in need. We cover our running costs through a separate range of affordable goods — so your donation goes further with Beacon than anywhere else.
Research shows some of Australia's largest charity op shops direct as little as 5 cents in every dollar of sales to people in need. We're building Beacon to change that.
Locally: We fund and self-manage projects that create lasting change — not short-term fixes. Our goal is to support the construction of shelters and affordable housing for people doing it tough in Australia, where we can see and measure real results.
Internationally: We fund and directly oversee the construction of new facilities within existing schools and new schools, ensuring every dollar is properly used and accounted for.
We also send donated clothing directly to poor communities where it is needed most.
Our aim is to become the most efficient charitable organisation in Australia — directing a higher percentage of turnover to good causes than any other charity in the country.
